A light filled an large formal entrance to the property, also allowed us to start to showcase our clients love of colour.
Our client found a dated (late nineties) property with great renovation potential. Our brief was to refurbish and transform this extensive 10,000 square foot residence with a radically altered open floor plan and FF&E throughout. The project involved a complete reconfiguration and extension into what has become a thoroughly modern country house with a clean lined Miami house style look.
The client had a strong vision for an open floor plan, requiring the removal of several rooms to create a light filled core to the property, consisting of an oversized kitchen, living and dining space with uninterrupted views of the redesigned garden.
The challenge was to make sense of this vast space whilst maintaining a family friendly environment suitable for entertaining and contemporary living. To do this, we developed a scheme of luxurious textures, bespoke joinery and a varied colour scheme, including pops of colour in the living room and study contrasting with more subtle and elegant tones in the formal lounge and dining area.
Aside from the design aesthetic, storage was also a key part of the brief, with the provision of clever bespoke storage solutions to discretely store a trove of possessions throughout the house. The eaves in the master bedroom were built out behind the bed to store luggage and sports equipment and in the daughter’s bedroom, made challenging with low ceilings and shallow eaves, we installed joinery into the perimeter to make the space usable with a daybed style social area (perfect for sleepovers) with deep drawers.
The specialist glazing was a technically difficult installation, but the results are worthwhile, bathing the open plan space with natural light and breaking down the boundaries between inside and outside. We always enjoy designing bespoke joinery and this was used throughout to help differentiate between living/eating zones but also to create practical storage solutions for a large family. We brought in resin flooring specialists to create a seamless flow between the master ensuite, dressing room and spiral staircase leading to the downstairs gym.
The overall impression is an eye catching modern country house designed with plenty of contemporary functionality suitable for a busy family of six.

The original staircase was worked with, the woodwork darkened and the spindles replaced with panels of glass - more contemporary and fitting of the overall style of the property. The dominant dark mirrored doors open into...
...a walk in Boot cupboard, however...
...the need for a Boot Room at this property was huge, this Boot Room is for general day to day usage so that the when you arrive back from a muddy game of football, run or walk with the dog you have a practical area to de-robe.
This was to be a more grown up and elegant Lounge, however it still needs to work for all the family and fulfill their needs. Storage was high up the list on this project, and a bespoke joinery spans a wall, with open shelving for display and concealed deep drawers for a multitude of things that aren't for display.
On an early sourcing trip with our client we found the fabrics for both the curtains and feature occasional chairs.
With this busy family this area need to cope with regular usage from the pets, family members - including allowing for teenagers snacking on the sofa - but as part of the huge open plan living/dining/kitchen and a key focus of the extension it still needed to have that wow impact. The glazing allows a connection to the natural light and nature. We particular like the swivel chairs with a pop of colour which is again picked up in the bar stools.
The family rarely regularly sit down for a meal together due to various school/college/work/sports/social commitments - which meant that the kitchen designers cleverly designed different casual eating areas. However there are still those times when you need a formal dining experience.
The focal point, the back lit wine storage.
The Study, incorporating more bespoke storage including open shelving for books and display aswell as drawers for suspension files. The wallpaper gives a tailored look to the room and the pop of red makes this a really fun space.
We sourced an incredible wallcovering which gives texture, pattern, colour as well as sound insulation to this Cinema Room.
A spiral staircase links the Gym (and indoor training pool beyond) to the Master Dressing Room, for quick early morning workouts.
A headboard reminiscent of a chocolate bar! We built the headboard wall out to allow sufficient headspace (getting into and out of bed), this meant that we could design storage behind the fabric clad panels - making use of every space we could.
Double doors connect the Master Bedroom and Ensuite, making the space feel larger, and lighter. The resin flooring in the Ensuite and Dressing Room gives a clean contemporary look.
What a view!
The spiral stairs from the Gym bring you to the Dressing Room and we designed a display unit for shoes and bags as a feature. With tricky eaves we worked with the joinery team to maximise storage whilst ensuring it was practical.
A really fun teenage boy's bedroom to design.
The daughter's bedroom was huge but as the room at the top of the house the eaves were tricky to work with, here you see the low level storage which we designed to wrap around one part of the room. Delivering more storage, whilst also allowing for the space to transform into an occasional daybed as a reading corner or for friends coming for a sleepover.
Beyond the bedroom and Ensuite, this very lucky girl has her own dressing room. The space was basically an L shaped corridor with steep eaves. We wanted to keep the design as clean as possible, designing posts with cubby hole drawers for underwear/socks/tights/hair bobbles which had simple rails between them for hanging clothes. We incorporated LED lighting to ensure the space is well lit and
